CHANDIGARH: The proceedings of the ongoing budget session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha last week were dominated by frequent verbal clashes between erstwhile allies, the BJP and the ruling Indian National Lok Dal led by Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala who missed no opportunity to lash out at both the state and Central leadership of the saffron clan.

Obviously, it was the Congress, their arch rival, which at times made fun of both of them and also tried to add fuel to the fire by repeatedly asking the chair to give more time to BJP firebrand Krishan Pal Gurjar to speak on the issues affecting the people of Haryana.

So agitated was the chief minister over the new stance taken by the BJP vis a vis the INLD that in the course of his reply to governor''s address, he went to the extent of dubbing the BJP as anti-farmer and said that it had given no relief to the farming community in the Central budget.It was a somersault of sorts because earlier soon after the presentation of budget in the Lok Sabha, his party men had hailed it.

On the BJP side, Gurjar, emboldened by his party''s decision to go it alone in the coming elections in the state, single-handedly fought back telling the treasury benches repeatedly that he would not rest till their party was defeated.
1x1 polls

Gurjar and the INLD had been at loggerhead right from the beginning and it was he who took the lead in raising the demand for breaking away from the INLD.In the weeks to come, these skirmishes between the two parties inside the House are all set to turn into a battle for the ballot outside.

<formid=367815>

</formid=367815>

The two fought the last Assembly and Lok Sabha elections jointly and swept the polls.Interestingly, during this session they are busy claiming credit for that victory and reminding each other that its true colours would be known this time.

Chief minister Chautala continued to take digs at the Congress by bringing into focus the ongoing factional fight between HPCC president and former chief minister Bhajan Lal and Congress legislature party leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Congress, which is the second largest party in the house, somehow failed to put up a united front against the onslaught of the ruling party and most of its members do not prepare themselves adequately to participate in House debates.

<formid=367815></formid=367815>
